How to move without downtime

When you change your domain's nameservers, it may take up to 48 hours for the changes to update on computers around the world who have visited your website within the past 48 hours.

However, it is possible to have your website on more than one server at a time:

  1. ServeByte
  2. Your old host

Because your website is on 2 servers, no matter if the visitor is using the outdated DNS information or the new DNS information, the visitor will be able to access your web site.

After the 48 hours have past since you have altered your domain's DNS information, you can discard your old hosting account.

Database sites

If you use a database on your web site, how is it possible to update both databases (old host's and ServeByte's) at the same time?

The answer here is to not to update both databases.
Move the old host's database to ServeByte using phpMyAdmin, then discard the old database.
Now, where possible (configuration file or Settings Area of the script) change the database information from the old information to the new ServeByte information. Set the host as solar.servebyte.com . If the script is hosted on ServeByte, use localhost. Now the old host will connect to the database on ServeByte instead of it's old database.
To allow for the old host to connect to ServeByte's mySQL server -> In the control panel under the mySQL tab enter the old host's server IP Address into the "Allow new host" text box.
For security reasons, you should remove this IP Address from the control panel after the 48 hour period.
